Caldonia’s arch nemesis,
Sir Scares a Cat, dons a cunning disguise in an attempt to gain her confidence.
Unconvinced, she watches from a safe distance, ready to seek refuge under the bed at a moment’s notice.
And yes, I dressed up my vacuum and took its picture because zefrank told me to. So what?

So, this weekend was Xenia’s annual “Old Fashioned Days” festival (not to be confused with
“Old Timers Days”, which is different; or with “Grumpy Old Bastard Days”, which I made up).
Every year the highlight of the festivities (for me, anyway) is the Balloon Glow. Well that and watching the illegally parked cars get towed away.
The best part is that all of this fun takes place literally a stone’s throw away from the homestead.
So, earlier I punched up my DSL modem’s IP and checked out the connection information just to see what my theoretical connection speed was and I saw:
6016 Kbps (downstream)
768 Kbps (upstream)
Cool, they at least have the line ready. A quick visit to the Speakeasy Speed Test confirmed the good news:
Download Speed: 5040 Kbps
Upload Speed: 634 Kbps
Wow, they threw that switch in a hurry! “3 business days” nothing! How about today, sometime before noon?
So, I was perusing the SBC/Yahoo/AT&T website the other day, for no particular reason at all. There I saw that they were offering their “Elite Package” DSL (3.0 to 6.0 Mbps Down, 384 to 608 Kbps Up) for $27.99 a month (with a 1 year commitment).
Dang! I’m paying $36.99 for their “Pro Package” (1.5 to 3.0 Mbps Down, 384 to 512 Kbps Up). I generally connect at just under 3Mbps now and overall I’m pleased with their service, but more speed is always good. More speed for less money is even better. To illustrate my penchant for speed; recently I’d even been contemplating getting Cable internet to augment the DSL and combining both lines through a Linux box set up as a load balancer, additional cost be damned!
Anyway, as per usual, I digress; I went ahead and signed up to upgrade to the “Elite Package”, so within 3 business days I should be seeing a big jump in my internet speed, and next month my bill will be ~$10 less!
Life is good.
Being a big fan of spicy foods and hot sauces, I was thrilled to discover that the McIlhenny Company has an online country store. Even more exciting was the discovery that they sell their various sauces in gallon jugs!
For years I’ve enjoyed canned Chipotles in adobo sauce (my Chipotle smashed sweet potatoes are to die for!) so when Tabasco came out with a Chipotle sauce, it was love at first taste.
The only problem was; with it being more flavorful and somewhat milder than regular Tabasco, I use a lot of it, and can only find it in 5 ounce bottles, which don’t last long.
What do I put it on, you ask? Well, just to name a few; it’s fabulous in or on any kind of eggs (fried, scrambled, hard-boiled; you name it), it’s just the thing to give boring pizza a little bite, and it plays amazingly well with potato chips or Fritos. Naturally, almost anything I cook is flavored with some type of hot sauce.
Well, my days of paying $3.49 every couple of weeks for a 5 ounce bottle of this magical nectar are over!
At $45 delivered to my door, that works out to just $1.76 per 5 ounces. I’d be a fool not to take advantage of a money-saving opportunity like that!
