In an effort to assuage my own cynicism, I bring you this message of Hope.

This song has become one of my favorite “not strictly a Christmas song” Holiday tunes.

It’s the title track on Steve Earle’s fantastic Jerusalem CD. Do your self (and me) a favor, click the link, buy the cd.

I’m guessing the Dylanesqe feel of the song and the cue cards were intentional. Good song. Does Mr. Earle’s voice always sound like that?

I read in the DDN today that a zoning variance for a mosque was denied in Sugarcreek township. Whispers of religious tension. Call me slow, but I am a little surprised.

Oh yeah, it’s definitely a tip of the hat to Dylan’s ‘Subterranean Homesick Blues’, and yeah that’s pretty much how he sounds these days. The voice has gotten rougher over the last few years.

About the mosque thing: it seems that there’s a lot of bigotry, intolerance and xenophobia concealed behind jingoistic flag-waving patriotism and “Christianity”.

I’d better stop now, before this turns into a 1500 word dissertation on what’s wrong with the world today. :o)
